Overview

Illumina Inc, headquartered in California, develops innovative array-based solutions for DNA, RNA, and protein analysis. Its technologies are used by a range of academic, government, pharmaceutical and biotechnology institutions around the globe, with offices in the US, Japan, China, Singapore, Australia and the UK.

This project was for the fit out of Illumina’s European headquarters at Chesterford Research Park, and comprised a Cat B fit out from shell and core covering the entire wing of the building.

The Project

The project comprised the fit out of two floors dedicated to laboratorial space comprising a sequencing laboratory and a nest of individual laboratories. ISG also provided general office space, a data hall, a cafeteria, a product gallery and a new substation with generator back up.

A curved desk was installed in the double-height reception area and a new communication centre created including all mechanical & electrical, plant distribution and architectural packages.

The office accommodation was designed in an open plan format to encourage teams to work efficiently and collaboratively and included enclosed and open format meeting spaces, hot desks, study booths and centralised services.

The facility was designed with a focus on long term flexibility to ensure that it could accommodate changes in process and continued growth.
