Our strategy

In 2022 we evolved our business strategy to one with a greater focus on environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues.

Developed collaboratively with input from across the business, our ‘Right thing first’ business strategy sets out ambitious goals and provides a cohesive strategic framework which is all about balancing profit with purpose. Under our strategy, our overarching ambitions are:

Customers

To be the trusted partner, adding long-term value and supporting customer ambitions.

People

To be an outstanding employer, inspiring and empowering people to be the best they can be.

Environment

To be the first carbon-negative contractor in our sector.

Social

To be a force for good, putting people’s futures first wherever we work.

Governance

To be the most ethical company for all stakeholders.

We are in the process of finalising our long- and short-term key performance indicators (KPIs) for each of these workstreams, along with our roadmap for achieving our ambitions.

Diversifying our workforce. Creating a sense of belonging.

We care deeply about diversity and inclusion in the workplace, and we work hard to make sure that, whatever your background, you’ll feel valued and respected at ISG. Discover ISG here

Young women's Trust pledge | ISG

Young Women’s Trust pledge

A diverse workforce is vital, so we’re working hard to ensure the people who work for us better reflect society. We recognise that gender diversity is an area where our industry needs to change, which is why we signed the Young Women’s Trust pledge. It means we’re committed to recognising the value of gender diversity and helping more young women into apprenticeships. By developing our apprenticeships into a fully inclusive experience that covers the wide range of on-site and office-based roles, we aim to attract a more diverse range of talent.
Women in property | ISG

Women in Property network

We work with clients in various industries and sectors, from a wide range of backgrounds. It’s crucial that our workforce reflects this diversity by including people with different experiences and perspectives. The Women in Property network’s events help to actively develop an industry that is balanced, diverse and inclusive by creating opportunities, expanding knowledge and inspiring change for women. As a proud champion of the network, we are supporting the continued development of the next generation of construction professionals.

Our armed forces community

ISG has made a commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant, a promise that those who serve or have served in the armed forces, and their families, are treated fairly.

We have now received a Gold award, recognising our commitments as part of the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme.

From employee benefits to new opportunities and charity support, we celebrate our armed forces community and share their inspirational stories.

Apprenticeship programme | ISG

Apprenticeships and The 5% Club

We’re always looking ahead to ensure we create a sustainable business, and are committed to creating high-quality apprenticeships and early careers programmes that attract and develop the very best. Through our Level 3 Professional Construction Practice qualification and our World of Work Experience (WOWEX) programme, we're introducing construction to new generations. As a member of the 5% Club, we’re committed to having at least 5% of our people in ‘earn and learn’ roles by 2024 and aim to increase the diversity of people working in our business.

Sustainability

Protecting the planet is no longer a choice, but an obligation.

We drive revolutionary change in our industry, promoting the sustainability agenda through our business operations, and supporting our clients to achieve their sustainability goals. We want to create a place where our people can thrive in our business, deliver performance we can be proud of, support communities who are better for knowing us, and ensure environments are both protected and enhanced. With the steps we are taking as a business to commit to a sustainable future, we are dedicated to ensuring that we accelerate this change as soon as we can, by taking our people, suppliers and contractors on the journey with us.

Caring for our people

Caring for the health and wellbeing of our people is essential to our business success. That’s why we developed our ‘Choose safe. Choose health’ programme, which makes sure we put health and safety at the top of our agenda in every project, every day.

‘Choose safe. Choose health’ goes beyond the typical approach to physical safety on sites. We realised that health issues are far more dangerous than safety issues on site, so it puts a greater emphasis on physical, mental and emotional health, while still aiming to reduce accidents. How? By linking health and safety to the choices all of us make every day. So, across our worldwide business, the programme empowers our people to advance health and safety through our actions, our words and our ideas. By engaging everyone every day, we’re creating a new way of working together to keep us all safe and healthy.

At the same time, we’re always reviewing our programme of health and well-being support for our people, including new approaches to mental well-being and critical incident aftercare. Our partnership with Mental Health UK (MHUK) and similar organisations in other regions encourages a more open dialogue on mental health. Join us and you’ll also have access to the Aviva Well-being and Digital GP apps to support your personal health and well-being.

Caring for our communities | ISG

Caring for our communities

Research into mental health in the construction industry shows that up to 57% of construction employees have experienced mental ill health issues at work. In response, we developed relationships with several mental health charities around the world.

Through our global partnerships and initiatives with mental health organisations, chosen by our employees, our aim is to reduce stigma surrounding mental health issues in our business and the broader industry by raising funds [and a legacy] to support their work. It will help raise awareness of mental health issues and enable people around Germany/Switzerland to access the support they need.
