Inclusion and Wellbeing

Nurturing an inclusive culture that enables everyone to thrive, feel a sense of belonging and where their differences are valued, is essential for ISG to achieve its vision to be the world’s most dynamic construction services company.

Diversifying our workforce. Creating a sense of belonging.

We care deeply about diversity and inclusion in the workplace, and we work hard to make sure that, whatever your background, you’ll feel valued and respected at ISG.

Our ability to innovate, challenge conventions and develop bold new solutions depends on embracing different opinions and welcoming new perspectives.

So, we believe your career should only be limited by your own ambition. We’re proud of our dynamic workforce, and will continue to recruit people from a variety of backgrounds, cultures and beliefs. Because we know that diverse organisations perform better.

Diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) roadmap

Our DEI agenda is a key enabler on our journey to be an outstanding employer and create a culture where everyone feels recognised, fairly rewarded, and able to grow, develop and be themselves.

Our current DEI roadmap focuses on the following areas:

  • Leadership: Supporting our senior team to lead on the DEI agenda.
  • Attraction and recruitment: Reviewing recruitment practices to enable us to diversify our workforce and attract the best talent.
  • Learning and development: Equipping our people with the knowledge and skills to create an inclusive workplace.
  • Communication and engagement: Implementing an awareness programme to celebrate diversity across ISG.
  • Policies: Developing a suite of policies to support our DEI agenda.
  • Data: Developing tools to track data and measure our success.

We want to make ISG a great place to work and create inspiring workplaces that enable innovation, collaboration and lasting relationships. We are doing this by providing new opportunities for our people to come together, share their lived experiences, and support us to make improvements.

Respect at Work

Respect at work

In 2023, we launched our 'Respect at work' campaign with the aim of inspiring and empowering our people to challenge discrimination and exclusion in the workplace. And if in doubt, call it out.

The campaign saw our global sites and offices pause work for 30 minutes to watch a video of our people sharing their career experiences. This was followed by group discussions and the launch of some new awareness posters across all out sites internationally.

Building communities through our employee networks

One of the ways we are doing this is through our employee-led inclusion networks. Our networks are open, supportive forums for employees to come together as a community, speak frankly about their experiences, and help us to identify improvements as we continue to make ISG a safe and inclusive business for all.

Womens network

ISG Network of Women (I-NoW)

I-NoW is our first global gender equity network, launched on International Women’s Day 2023 with four main aims:

  • Mentoring – supporting women to progress their careers at ISG.
  • Safe and inclusive work environment on site – creating more safe, equitable and inclusive environments on site. For example, through our #Inclusive PPE work.
  • Building confidence – through rolling out the #IamRemarkable programme.
  • Outreach – supporting internal teams to promote ISG as a good place for women to work.
Menopause champions

Menopause champions

We have a network of menopause champions across ISG who:

  • Promote awareness and understanding of the menopause.
  • Signpost people to both internal and external support.
  • Listen and answer questions from people who are either on the menopause journey, their managers or loved ones.
Celebrating our armed forces

Armed forces community

At ISG, we are proud to receive a gold award from the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme, as part of our commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant to ensure those who serve or have served in the armed forces, and their families, are treated fairly.

LGBTQIA+

ISG Pride network

We launched our network for LGBTQIA+ colleagues and allies during Pride Month in 2023. The network is focused on:

  • Educating and awareness – raising awareness of, and celebrating, the different life experiences under the LGBTQIA+ umbrella.
  • Building a community of allies that are visible throughout ISG.

The network has joined Building Equality as it looks to join forces with other LGBT+ networks to make the construction industry a more LGBT+ inclusive place.

Race and faith

Race and faith network

Our race and faith network exists to create a supportive community for people of minoritised ethnicities, races and faiths. The network’s three main aims are:

  • Education and awareness – raising awareness of, and celebrating, the main different cultures and faiths we have at ISG, and educating people on different experiences.
  • Community – creating community and safe spaces.
  • Representation – working with our central teams to ensure greater representation in our leadership, and overall, diversity.

Supporting the well-being of our people

One of our core values is ‘Always care’ and to us, this doesn’t just mean caring for our customers. It means caring for our people and the communities we work in too. By using our expertise and resources to support our people and our market presence to benefit our local and global communities, we help to create a world where everyone can flourish.

Employee well-being is at the heart of what we do, and we place great importance on the part the line manager plays in guiding and supporting our people and setting teams up for success. At ISG, we have a wealth of resources to support your personal health and well-being, as well as specialist resources that provide additional support in times of need.

We also have an extensive network of mental health first aiders, trained to spot the signs and symptoms of mental ill health and provide help on a first aid basis, so no one should feel isolated or alone,   and an embedded programme of learning to raise awareness across a range of topics.

Talking openly about mental health is encouraged at ISG and creates the supportive environment that is so important to us. Our award-winning UK partnership with Mental Health UK – a partnership that was voted in by our people – and similar organisations in other regions are focal points for many and connect us all to giving something back to the wider community and driving industry change.

Our annual Move for Charity fundraising event grows year on year and benefits mental health charities across the globe. Whether you go for a lunchtime walk, hold walking meetings, or organise a team event or challenge for your site or office, there are opportunities to get involved whatever your preference.
