Overview
Always keen to bring a disused plot of land back into use, for the benefit of the customers and the surrounding community,ISG was delighted to be chosen to build ASDA’s new store in Cheltenham on a brownfield site.
The works consisted of a substantial ground stabilisation package followed by construction of the steel framework, roof and all associated services. These included pre-finished, packaged plant units, and terrazzo floor finishes to the sales floor. Also, timber cedar cladding was used with ship lapped detail to reduce the visual impact of the store. Finally, the brief also included the installation of a petrol station and associated service provisions.
The Project
Midway through the project the client decided they wanted to use the store as a prototype for a new design & build contract that would lead to numerous changes to scheduled interior works. The team was happy to help and this led to substantial programme changes and alterations. The total length was retained at 27 weeks, showing ISG’s flexibility to accommodate the customer’s wish to change the desired finish. The change in project led to the store becoming the first of a new design concept that was being trialled before being rolled out across the country.
