The partners behind the landmark £49 million Liverpool Lime Street development celebrated its completion with a visit from the Mayor of Liverpool, Joe Anderson.
The partners behind the landmark £49 million Liverpool Lime Street development celebrated its completion with a visit from the Mayor of Liverpool, Joe Anderson.
Joined by famous Liverpool artist Anthony Brown, the mayor heard first-hand about the inspiration behind the now iconic large-scale graphic art work panels that form the façade of the building from the man behind the vision.
Anthony explained his inspiration: “With this work, we tried to capture and reflect the history of a truly unique street - and one of the most important areas in the City of Liverpool.
“We created an accessible ‘Quantum Timeline’ using illustrative graphic images and archived text to immortalise the development, buildings, business and people of Lime Street.
“It will serve to showcase ‘what was’ as we celebrate ‘what comes next’.”
Anthony’s panels range from iconic Liverpool landmarks like the Guinness Clock and The Futurist, to portraits of the original founder of what was ‘Limekiln Lane’ and Liverpool’s folklore, Maggie May.
Among those welcoming Liverpool mayor, Joe Anderson, and artist, Anthony Brown, were Ion managing director, Steve Parry, Curlew Capital head of investment management, Ian Scott and ISG regional director, Paul Munro.
Ian Scott, Curlew Capital, said: “We are delighted to complete our first development in Liverpool with a showpiece scheme in such a prominent position.
“Ion, as development partners with ISG, and the support of the city council have been key to delivering this striking building.”
Steve Parry, managing director at Ion, said: ‘It was important to gather together the partners who have made this scheme possible.
“Today we celebrate the past and the present through Anthony Brown’s unique historic timeline and the completed development bringing leisure and retail to Lime Street once again.”
Now complete, the scheme has delivered over 28,000 sq ft of retail and leisure space, a 412-bed student accommodation block and a 101-room Premier Inn hotel.
