How long is the Graduate programme?

The Graduate programme is 2 years long, giving you the opportunity to work across different departments and rotate in different disciplines so that you gain a better understanding of how each area links with your core specialism.

The programme is also supported by a taught syllabus and technical workshop programme. You can find out more on our Graduate page. 

What are the requirements needed to apply?

To have or be on target for at least a 2:2 degree

Passion and enthusiasm to build a career within the Construction Industry

Be able to lead by example when you're working with sub-contractors and other team members

Be an excellent communicator – know how to adapt your approach to different situations and influence others

Be driven to achieve results, with strong attention to detail, excellent analytical skills and the ability to plan, prioritise and tackle problems effectively

What if I don’t have a Construction related degree?

That’s fine! We look for graduates who are passionate about construction and have a drive to deliver top quality results. If you do not have a relevant degree, we will ensure you are given a clear and structured training programme along with a supportive team around you to soak up their technical knowledge.

You will have had knowledge and skills picked up elsewhere whether that be through relevant work experience leading to transferable skills, completing a useful course in addition to your degree, or researching the industry. Showing this passion and interest within your application will be help us to understand why you want to join the Construction Industry.

Where will I be based?

Our office locations are London, Berkshire, Birmingham, Bradford, Bristol, Cambridge, Cardiff, Chorley, Glasgow, Huntingdon, Suffolk, Salford and Whitstable.

The job adverts will state the locations in which the roles are based, and you will be asked to state your most preferred location on the application form so we can try to place you as close as possible.

As we are a Construction company, you may be required to work on a construction site which may involve having to travel further or stay away from home, so it is important you are flexible.

We do try our best to place you in your preferred choice where possible.

What is the starting salary for a Graduate?

£30,000 starting salary with a pay rise each year. We also review salaries annually to ensure we are staying competitive in the market.

If I am successful, when will I start my Graduate role?

All of our graduates join ISG in September. You take part in a two-day induction then join your business units.

Do you provide sponsorship for work permits or visas to take part in the Graduate programme?

Unfortunately, we are unable to sponsor visa applications. If you require a visa to work in the UK you must obtain this independently and provide evidence of this visa before the start of the programme.

How do I apply and what is the application process?

All applications need to be made through the vacancies page on our website.

There are 3 stages to the application process:

• Apply online answering a few questions and uploading your CV, followed by an Online Aptitude Test
• Video Interviews
• Assessment Centres

Will I receive feedback on my application?

We will acknowledge all applications and will provide updates at each stage of the application process. You can request feedback from the early careers recruitment team if you have attended an assessment day. However, due to the high volume of applications it will not be possible to provide feedback at earlier stages.

If I am unsuccessful, can I apply again?

You are welcome to reapply for the following year if you are unsuccessful.

Can I apply for more than one position?

We advise that you only apply to one position so that you do not have to repeat the application process multiple times.

Your CV will remain on our database for 12 months for the Early Careers Recruitment team to review. If we feel there is a more suitable position, we will reach out to discuss further.

How long will the selection process take?

We aim to review all applications within four working days and to respond back to you within one – two weeks. We will always ensure you receive a response regardless of the outcome but due to high volumes of applications, this may be delayed at times.

The programme:

What apprenticeships do you offer? 

We offer Level 3, 4 and 6 apprenticeships:

Level 6 Chartered surveyor with RICS accreditation

Level 4 (HNC) Construction Management leading to a Level 6 (HND) with CIOB accreditation

Level 4 (HNC) Building services engineering technician leading to a Level 6 (HND) with CIBSE accreditation

Level 3 safety, health and environment technician

Level 3 Bid and proposal co-ordinator

How long is an Apprenticeship programme?

The Level 6-degree apprenticeships including those starting on a Level 4 and working up to Level 6 take five years to complete.

You will spend the five years understanding your core specialism as well as rotating around different roles to understand how each area fits into a typical project lifestyle. The last 2 years return to your core discipline to help focus and finalise your degree, and you take an end point assessment to become chartered.

Those taking part in a Level 3 apprenticeship can complete the programme within 24 months working with an apprenticeship provider to obtain the right knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to carry out the role.

What are the requirements needed to apply?

Are on track for or have obtained 104 UCAS Points

For building/technical service management a Maths or Physics A-level is required

Achieved a grade C in GCSE Maths and English (4 or above in new system)

Be passionate about construction and have a drive to deliver top quality results

Be personable and a team player with great communication skills

Our Apprenticeship starting salary is £21,000 with an annual pay increase each September whilst on the apprenticeship programme. We also review salaries annually to ensure we are staying competitive in the market.

Unfortunately, anyone applying for an apprenticeship has to have been a UK resident for 3 years or more. Government legislation forbids us from offering apprenticeship opportunities to anyone who does not meet these requirements.
