Introduction
Wakefield One saw ISG deliver a fast-track, phased programme to ensure 1,200 council employees could hit the ground running as soon as they moved into their new offices.
Every person in the building now benefits from a minimum of 10GB connection speed, with individual power banks and superior soundproofing in the interview and meeting rooms.
Thanks to the high quality of our work on the Cat B fit out, we were awarded the contract to deliver a new café facility on the ground floor.
The project
We were tasked with delivering the electrical and IT systems to ensure the new office was fit for the 21st century.
This included installing a new electrical bus bar and CAT6A data cabling distribution in the underfloor void to user workstations across five floors.
We also carried out the construction of individual office spaces, meeting and interview rooms, and break out areas, with final decorations and floor finishes bringing the final product together.
To overcome the challenges on the programme, we worked closely with the council, accommodating other contractors and creating several office entrances to ensure that employees moving into the upper floors were not disturbed by the work below.
Added value
As the main fit out contractor on the tight programme, we had to work closely with other contractors on site delivering desks, furniture, workstations and soft furnishings.
This was made even more challenging once the phased handover started on the upper floors as we continued to work on the lower levels.
Sustainability
Sustainable materials were used where possible and 90 per cent of all site waste was recycled. A high percentage of suppliers and sub-contractors were based within a 30-mile radius of the site.
On site, car and van sharing was encouraged and we offered three-weeklong work experience placements to local bricklaying and joinery college students. We also supported an apprentice decorator who was working on site for one of our subcontractors.
