Introduction

We worked for European developer, Hammerson, to fit out the The Westquay Shopping Centre in Southampton. The shopping centre was completed to the highest specification, with over 100 stores on three levels, a food court, a pedestrian bridge, brand new toilet facilities and remote storage areas for various brands.

During the last stages of the project, Hammerson requested the addition of brand new toilet facilities to keep the standard consistent throughout the centre. This unexpected request required us to react quickly and be flexible.

The project

We extended four sales floors with working heights from 12 to 35 metres.

To make the shopping centre feel luxurious, we installed Italian marble flooring that cost £300pm² and bespoke lighting.

We replaced the staircases that lead to the food court area and built a unique, 26 metre curved bridge that links the Wagamama and Café Rouge restaurants. The bridge is made from cedar wood timber fins and fitted with lighting from the cutting-edge Australian lighting design company, Yellow Goat.

We built a new Giardinos restaurant and a terrace area for dining, all at a height of around 38 metres.

Sustainability

ISG worked very closely with the local residents and surrounding properties on this project, inviting them to a number of meetings throughout the project to get their feedback. Newsletters were also distributed to all nearby residents on a monthly basis to keep them informed.

During the strip out works we gave a number of redundant fridges and kitchen equipment to a local charity.

We also worked with the local Environmental Health Officer and the Environment Agency prior to and throughout the project, carrying out environmental surveys and making sure no wildlife was affected by the works.
