Introduction

This project was part of a £25-million, four-year framework to redevelop the leisure facilities for the London Borough of Waltham Forest.

Key client drivers were to bring the accommodation up to modern, efficient standards using the ‘Better’ brand model and to achieve low-running costs and long-term lifecycle replacement.

The Project

The project involved a complete strip out and refurbishment of the main reception area and a refurbishment at first floor level. This was to upgrade the fitness areas and to provide two new studios equipped with state-of-the-art Technogym equipment.

ISG also undertook a refurbishment of all wet and dryside changing rooms and reconfigured the pool layouts.

The main pool was considered too deep for a leisure pool so ISG altered it to 1.2m throughout and retiled both the pool and pool hall floor. A brand new teaching pool was built, with the slide and associated flumes being relocated. A significant amount of play equipment was installed and a ‘splash zone’ for babies and toddlers was created.
