Overview
ISG were tasked to convert one of London’s oldest banks into the capital’s first wine members’ club. Located in St James's, in the heart of clubland, 67 Pall Mall was conceived as an exclusive location to enjoy the world’s rarest and finest wines. Set in the west end of the former Hambros Bank, a Grade II listed building, which required sensitive restoration and alterations in order to convert it into a three-storey clubhouse with areas for dining, private functions and wine storage.
ISG’s high-end hospitality credentials, heritage building expertise and experience in London’s exclusive residential sector were key in delivering this multi-faceted scheme. Their capability with joinery was also crucial with the main room boasting original oak panelling that required careful storage and restoration.
The project included a restored members’ lounge, mezzanine balcony, private dining room and wine library, all of which were all finished to the highest luxury specification to ensure the clubs’ members could enjoy the space in style. At basement level our team formed an events area for wine tastings and private functions, as well as a commercial kitchen. We repurposed the building’s original bank vault for wine storage and exclusive tasting space, transforming the remaining basement into a labyrinth cellar for the clubs’ and members’ wines. ISG also installed a passenger lift, two dumb waiters and a vibration-free wine hoist linking the sub-basement cellar with the lounge and dining facilities.
The project has been heralded in the press as a revolution in the wine industry - offering a sophisticated space to enjoy the world’s best wines – and was well received by the client who felt the club imbued the elegance with which he had first envisioned it.
