RIBA NORTH national architecture centre - ISG

Introduction

ISG was awarded the prestigious fit out scheme at RIBA’s new national architecture centre on the Liverpool Waterfront in 2015.

The new architecture centre opened to much fanfare in June 2017, becoming a key destination for everyone inspired by the built environment.

The visitor experience now showcases RIBA’s world-class collections and has become a focal point for those interested in architecture and the built environment.

Part of the wider £5.5bn Liverpool Waterfront regeneration, the three buildings at Mann Island were developed by Countryside Properties and ION Developments with RIBA occupying two floors of Building Two.

The project

We had to undertake significant alterations to the existing internal layout of Building Two at Mann Island, which was originally constructed in 2011. Externally, a dedicated new entrance was created for RIBA staff and visitors.

Extending over two floors of the building, the work saw us install a new passenger lift and feature staircase to link the ground and first floor mezzanine level.

Requiring both exhibition and office space, RIBA instructed us to extend the mezzanine level to create an open plan office and make the most out of the space.

Inspirational design and high-quality execution was a key theme of the fit out programme, and the ground floor transformation included the installation of a six-metre-tall seamless Corian spine wall in RIBA’s ‘blaze red’ brand colour.

This defined the route to the first floor and the high-specification ground floor café area, which is helping to drive additional footfall into the building.
