Introduction
We created a state-of-the-art eye hospital in London’s renowned Marylebone medical district for high-end ophthalmic specialist Optegra.
Retaining the attractive Edwardian and Victorian façades of the two buildings and unifying space and levels across both buildings.
The project
The scheme involved the conversion of two six story period properties into an advanced facility for the treatment of a comprehensive range of eye conditions. We installed facilities including operating theatre suites and a dedicated refractive laser unit for eye surgery.
We also created a high-specification reception area and a series of consulting rooms on the ground floor. At second floor level we delivered two high-tech operation theatres, complete with ceiling mounted precision microscopes. The third floor houses a patient recovery suite, with staff offices and welfare facilities on the building’s upper levels.
Interview: Tahseen Sherwani
“Assuming we live long enough, every one of us will develop a cataract at some point in our lives.” We talk to Optegra Eye Hospital Investment Director, Tahseen Sherwani, about the growing need for ophthalmology in today’s healthcare sector and the company’s new state-of-the-art facilities located at Queen Anne Street.
