Overview

It was the success of our £120 million Nido Spitalfields project, completed in August 2010, which led to the securing of the 272 bed Nido Notting Hill scheme.

The Project

The 89,294 sq ft building accommodates 233 rooms, including twin bed apartments, single studio units and specially designed disabled rooms. Off-site manufactured bathroom pods and kitchen units were used throughout the development, which achieved a BREEAM ‘Very Good’ rating thanks to efficient roof-mounted air source heat pumps and a green sedum roof with bat box habitats. At ground floor level, we built a gym, lounge area and six individual work space units.

The Added Value

ISG brought all of the lessons they learned from the Nido project at Spitalfields and implement them in this new project in the following ways.
By developing alternative construction methodologies including pre-cast columns, twin wall core and PCC manhole units, it was possible to save approximately eight weeks on programme time.
Alternative window cladding solutions improved thermal efficiency which proved a considerably less costly than traditional window installations.
Simplified below ground drainage design negated pumping chamber and eliminated hanging more costly drainage/concrete surrounds.
Selected substructure solutions provided greater useable space.
