Introduction
ISG delivered a circa £2.3 million refurbishment project converting existing office and laboratory space into new world-class facilities for the leading Cambridge biotechnology company, Astex Therapeutics.
The project
Working alongside architects Saunders Boston on this live environment project, ISG stripped out and extensively reconfigured existing accommodation and formed three advanced laboratories within the 1,500 sq ft space. The new facilities support leading-edge analytical chemistry research, as well as providing a drug metabolism and pharmacokinetic (DMPK) space, providing separate environments where tissue cultures are grown.
To minimise the impact of these significant works, ISG carefully scheduled the programme to include out of hours working. Maintaining continuity of services to the existing building was a pre-requisite and robust measures were put in place to ensure there was zero disruption to the normal operation of the building.
