Introduction

ISG delivered a state-of-the art Hybrid Endovascular Aneurism Repair (EVAR) operating theatres and associated preparatory rooms at this world-renowned teaching hospital. The new EVAR theatres will improve the lives of people suffering with vascular disease.

We completed this project for long-term customer Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, having previously worked on numerous projects for this hospital.

Facilitating works were carried out in the ceiling void located above areas used by members of the public. The only available access for the delivery of materials was via the third floor windows, so site logistics was one of the biggest challenges faced by the team.

The project

The project consisted of the creation of two new EVAR theatres and involved remodelling the existing staff changing rooms and hospital storage areas.

A new steel framed plant deck was constructed on level 5 of the hospital to house new air handling units and new roof-level chillers were installed on Level 4.

Works carried out in occupied areas were fast-tracked and resulted in the areas being closed to the public for just one week. We worked closely with the Trust throughout the project to minimise disruption. We ensured that all noisy works were undertaken outside of normal site working hours. To maintain the programme, the project was managed on a 24 hours-a-day, triple-shift basis.

“I would like to say a huge thank you for your work on the theatres. It has been a pleasure working with you all and I hope to work with you again in the future.”
