The private hospital of the future

What does the private hospital of the future look like?

That was the question posed to ISG and a panel of leading healthcare experts at the sixth annual Private Healthcare Summit on Thursday 13 June 2019.

Taking place at the QEII Centre in Westminster, London, the Private Healthcare Summit is a leading event in the UK private healthcare sector. Hosted by healthcare marketing intelligence provider, LaingBuission, the theme this year was focused on healthcare innovation, exploiting new technologies and new thinking to benefit patients, doctors, healthcare providers and payors.

Following the launch of our healthcare campaign in May, our science and health team hosted an exhibition stand at the event, offering delegates the opportunity to learn more about our industry-leading healthcare experience and trial our new virtual operating theatre.

The private hospital of the future

Our healthcare lead and operations director David Broderick, shared insight on this topic by taking part in a panel discussion at the event titled: ‘The private hospital of the future’.

David discussed how using a tech-led approach in healthcare allows hospital users to engage earlier in the design and construction of their healthcare facilities, improving spatial fit, quality and the patient experience.

David commented: “It’s no secret that building high-quality healthcare environments in a city can be a challenge.

"The need to deliver exceptional healthcare facilities in some of the most complex, urban environments is growing, so it’s important that the hospital end users are engaged as early as possible.

"At ISG, we aspire to drive revolutionary change. Aided by the scope of technology, we believe this will help in delivering thriving healthcare facilities, right where clients need them.”

Assisted by our head of visualisation, Simon Spink, he led a live demonstration that offered attendees an exclusive insight into our new virtual operating theatre.

Using interactive Virtual Reality (VR), the software allows doctors, surgeons or clients to walk through virtual healthcare spaces and offer input on how to deliver bespoke operating theatre layouts and designs.

Virtual hands allow users to physically grab pendants and equipment within the theatre to offer an immersive experience through the eyes of a surgeon or doctor.

Simon talks about the opportunity for more virtual reality in the healthcare sector: “Virtual reality as we know it is transforming the construction industry already.

"But in healthcare, there is a real opportunity to improve the delivery of high-quality healthcare environments through realistic simulation using interactive VR, bringing healthcare specialists closer to their end space before it is built.

“Visualisation technology has proved very successful on projects including Schoen Clinic London and Spire St Anthony’s Hospital and is something we look forward to utilising on more projects going forward.”

The speaker session generated a lot of interest on the stand where delegates were handed video brochures with a link to our new healthcare animation.
