Stronger together as ISG scoops Construction News ‘Supply Chain Excellence’ win

ISG’s one-team approach to supply chain engagement certainly impressed the judges at this year’s Construction News Awards as its BBC Wales Headquarters project in Central Square, Cardiff for client, Rightacres, scooped the top accolade.

The Supply Chain Excellence award recognises outstanding performance by a supply chain where all partners have worked together and improved performance.

Nowhere is this strategy more prevalent than the delivery of the BBC Headquarters in Cardiff, which saw a highly technical and challenging building delivered on time, within budget and to the highest standards.

ISG engaged suppliers early, fostering a collaborative environment based around a strong team ethic, and also worked closely with consultants at the tender stage to meet the project’s sustainability needs.

Construction News noted: “There was collaboration upstream and downstream, innovation, and recognition of a supply chain ecosystem.

“ISG impressed the judges with a genuinely collaborative approach to working with its suppliers.”

The judges’ comments included: “Subcontractors were routinely engaged early by ISG and helped to see the job not just from the point of view of their package, but also to understand what was important to the client.

“This ensured everyone was working to the same goal.”

An increased focus on early engagement, collaboration and consistency has driven fantastic results across ISG projects.

Aysegul Sabanci, group head of procurement and supply chain, said: “We are extremely honoured to have received this award.

“We’ve been working with our suppliers to create an eco-system which fosters innovation and embraces collaboration so that we can all be more agile and resilient.

“The BBC Headquarters, Cardiff is a great example of everything we strive to achieve.”

ISG was also shortlisted for three additional projects, narrowly missing out on the following awards:

• Contractor of the Year (turnover over £500m)
• Project of the Year, up to £20m – Corn Exchange, Manchester
• Project of the Year, £20m-£50m – The Temperate House, Kew
