ISGs £2.6bn Britishvolt scheme features on ITV News
ISG’s largest-ever scheme, Britishvolt, featured on ITV Tyne Tees’ evening news programme yesterday.
With it taking approximately 12 seconds to travel 60mph in an electric car from one side of the project to the other, the £2.6bn facility in Cambois, Northumberland, is also currently the UK’s largest construction scheme – a site bigger than every F1 circuit in the world and capable of holding 30 St James’ Park football stadiums.
Providing a much-needed rebirth and energy boost in the region, the UK’s first-ever battery gigaplant is now busy as advanced enabling works progress, with 700 local jobs planned for this time next year and another 3,000 once the scheme is complete in 2024 – with two further phases confirmed from 2027 onwards.
The gigaplant, which will be built on the site of the 93-hectare former Blyth Power Station, will utilise surrounding infrastructure, and at capacity produce enough sustainable, low-carbon cells to power approximately 300,000 electric vehicle battery packs per year – transforming vehicle electrification for the long haul.
Hear from local members of the ISG project team as compliance assistant Nicola Dodds, construction manager Jake Maughan, and senior social value manager Sinead Moloney, discuss how vital the scheme is for bringing much-needed investment and an energy boost to the region for generations to come.
