ISG has been appointed to deliver the new Bishop’s Stortford High School via Pagabo’s Major Works Framework. The project sees the school move to a new expanded site in the town at Whittington Way, able to offer additional places in a modern environment, with further potential to expand in the future to support new housing growth in the area.

The development will be funded by the sale of the school’s current site, as well as a £11.2m grant from the Department for Education (DfE) and funding from Hertfordshire County Council.

Construction work will now start in mid-July, ahead of schedule, with works due to be completed by November 2022. The new school buildings are expected to open in January 2023, with the school moving to the new site from then.

Councillor Terry Douris, Cabinet Member for Education, Libraries and Lifelong Learning at Hertfordshire County Council, said: “Relocating The Bishop’s Stortford High School is providing a fantastic opportunity to build a brand new school with modern facilities, which will provide its students with the first-class learning environment and enrichment facilities they deserve to flourish and succeed.”

“We’re delighted to be bringing ISG on board as contractor and I’m looking forward to seeing the new school start to take shape."

Dale Reeve, Headteacher at The Bishop’s Stortford High School “It has been many years in the making, but we’re all so pleased to be at a stage where construction can now take place.”

Ben Elliott, ISG’s regional director, added: “Creating inspirational spaces that provide the best possible learning environment for young people to thrive is a core driver shared by every project stakeholder on this important new development at The Bishop’s Stortford High School. This scheme is another excellent example of how collaboration from the outset has pushed the boundaries for innovation and value creation, especially relating to the school’s impressive sustainability specification.”

Ben Jones, Regional Relationship Manager at Pagabo, said: “I’m really pleased that we were able to provide a quick and compliant procurement route for Hertfordshire County Council, to support them in their appointment of ISG. We have a very strong working relationship with both parties and so it’s fantastic to have played our part in getting this project to the stage where now works are set to start ahead of schedule. Everyone at Pagabo will be keeping a close eye on the relocation as it starts to take shape over the next few years.”
