This month’s New Steel Construction features the innovative work undertaken by ISG’s project manager, Ross Sangster, and his team, exploring how a steel framing solution ensured minimal disruption to neighbours and easy transport of materials while maintaining structural stability.

It also tips the hat to another project for the same client, Brickland, in the Cornbrook area of Manchester.

The story focusses on the offsetting of the steel frame from the site boundary and explains how this, alongside favourable ground conditions, helped the team working on the £24m project in Liverpool’s Baltic Triangle avoid complex temporary and intrusive works on the highways.

The article goes on to explain how these innovative practices and good conditions allowed the project team to utilise the ground and parts of the existing buildings to keep excavations open and allow for the placement of bases and the steel frame – removing complex temporary works.

It also recognises the high level of partnership working that was needed between ISG, designers and steelwork contractor Walter Watson to understand the secondary steelwork that was required at a later stage in the development.
