The new Gleneagles Townhouse in Edinburgh opens to the public
ISG has delivered Gleneagles’ first venture beyond the Perthshire hills in their almost 100-year history; a place to gather and be glorious in the heart of Edinburgh. Consisting of 33 bedrooms, an all-day restaurant, roof terrace bar and members club, the townhouse is already becoming one of Scotland’s most sought-after destinations.
Gleneagles have made their first venture beyond the Perthshire hills in their almost 100-year history, as they open the doors of the Gleneagles Townhouse in the heart of Edinburgh. It has already been applauded by The Financial Times, whose recent review was published earlier this month. It has also been hailed as one of GQ’s top places to visit for 2022, while Condé Nast Traveller has named it one of the most exciting new hotels in the world.
Over the last three years, ISG has been working alongside Ennismore Design Studio to carefully restore the listed building, creating 33 unique rooms, some of which overlook the bustling St Andrew Square. The Townhouse was originally home to the British Linen Company before later becoming the Bank of Scotland.
As part of the restoration, the team constructed a bronze extension and roof terrace, along with a new single-storey structure with basement, which contains luxurious bedrooms, five-star dining and kitchen spaces.
At the heart of the building lies The Spence – an airy, social space offering modern style brasserie-dining. Within The Spence, a central bar sits underneath an extraordinary glass-domed ceiling serving up a seasonally rotating, locally inspired list of cocktails, local whiskies, beers, spirits, and wine.
Down in the bank’s former vault, Townhouse guests and members have access to The Strong Rooms, a dedicated training, treatments and therapies space, featuring holistic wellness and innovative technologies including a cryotherapy chamber and infrared sauna, alongside gym and wellness studios.
The Members' Club features two exclusive spaces, the Note Burning Room designed for breakfast meetings, brunches and lunches, and co-working space The Telling Rooms which is perfect for relaxed remote working.
Evenings at Townhouse promise to be a place for friends and colleagues to gather. The roof terrace bar Lamplighters, exclusive to members and hotel guests, offers impressive views of the city’s medieval Old Town to the left and New Town to the right – the perfect spot to watch the sun set and see the city lights sparkle.
