ISG's CEO, Matt Blowers, spent a night sleeping under the stars last month to raise awareness and funds of homelessness at this year’s Northumberland Big CEO Sleepout, which took place in aid of the war veteran charity, Walking with the Wounded.

Joining Matt at the Northumberland Big Sleepout were ISG's managing director for high-tech manufacturing, Peter Millett, and social value manager, Sinead Moloney, who swapped their beds for a night sleeping outside to highlight how the recent global pandemic and rising living costs have contributed to more than 250,000 people in the UK currently being homeless.

The Big CEO Sleepout is one of several events being held across the UK in partnership with Walking with the Wounded (WWTW): an ex-military charity which works with those who have served to provide the care, support and means they and their families need to help overcome issues, such as homelessness, and be able to function in society. The Northumberland event took place in Alnwick Garden – a stone’s throw from where ISG is delivering the UK’s first-ever battery ‘gigaplant’ for the low-carbon battery technology pioneer, Britishvolt.

As main contractor on the £2.6bn project, we are committed to supporting our corporate ESG strategy and ensuring that we maximise the social value and beneficial impact that we bring to the communities in which we operate.

If you would like to support Matt, Peter and Sinead’s efforts at The Big CEO Sleepout this year, you can make a donation on the JustGiving page for the event here. ISG has set themselves the ambitious target of beating last years total of £16k, so please feel to donate any amount – no matter how big or small – to help make a difference to someone’s life.

Chief Executive of The Big CEO Sleepout, Tommy Watson, thanks donations so far by adding: “Thank you for the amazing effort of Matt, Peter and Sinead who have currently raised £9k for those who served in the armed forces. Amazing support!”

This Sleepout is one of the initiatives that ISG has undertaken with WWTW in recent years. Our UK Construction team also worked with long-term client Manchester City Council to refurbish eight homes, with a new streetscape, upgrades to the facades of 62 neighbouring properties, and a new WWTW advice and therapy centre, as part of the BBC’s DIY SOS Big Build. This led to the scheme being shortlisted for a best regeneration award and a further donation of £5,500 being awarded to the charity following a fundraising campaign by ISG employees.

The support also follows ISG’s re-affirmed commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant – a promise from the nation that those who serve or have served in the armed forces, and their families, are treated fairly.
