The Importance of Modern Methods of Construction

In the dynamic landscape of today's construction industry, prioritizing operational excellence and efficiency has become imperative.
Ensuring that every structure operates effectively, sustainably, and economically is no longer a choice but a necessity. The adoption of modern methods of construction (MMC) and innovative practices empowers construction companies to elevate the speed, quality, and environmental performance of their buildings.

One of the vital aspects of achieving operational excellence in construction is focusing on timely completion. This means delivering projects on schedule and to the highest quality standards. Through careful planning, effective project management, and the right usage of technology, construction companies can streamline their processes and minimize delays. The introduction of digitalization in construction has revolutionized project management by facilitating efficient collaboration, communication, and data transparency among all stakeholders involved. Project management software, digital platforms, and cloud-based systems have improved productivity and accuracy in project delivery.

An example of a digital tool that promotes efficient project management is R-Drive. It provides real-time access to project information, including drawings, plans, and schedules, ensuring that all team members have the most up-to-date information available. This streamlines decision-making processes and reduces the risk of errors and miscommunication. We have been using R Drive as a holistic quality management software across all projects in the Middle East over the past few years.

R Drive helps ISG deliver the best quality end products for our clients and stakeholders and enables us to be consider quality through the whole project lifecycle; from commencement all the way through to the end of the defects liability period (DLP). R Drive is most beneficial when used collaboratively across the project and business. We spend time, onboarding, coaching and demonstrating the software to our key stakeholders to gain their trust in using the system in collaboration with ISG to have a singular centralised Quality Management System. The benefits of this tool has been demonstrated in the recent success of projects such as FTI Consulting, ICD Brookfield Place and Roxy Cinemas Dubai Hills Mall where ISG have been commended on the market leading level of finish on completion of the spaces in line with our absolute completion KPIs.

Another innovative tool that enhances operational efficiency in construction is OpenSpace. It captures 360-degree imagery of construction sites, allowing project managers and stakeholders to remotely monitor progress, identify potential issues, and make informed decisions without the need to be physically present. This not only saves time and resources but also improves on-site safety and removes potential subjectivity with regards to progress and valuations.

Another game-changer in the construction industry is Building Information Modelling (BIM). The adoption of advanced technologies like BIM and REVIT enables efficient project coordination, reduces errors, and improves overall efficiency. At ISG, we have embraced BIM and advocated for its use in our construction processes. This has been demonstrated throughout the framework agreement at ICD Brookfield Place, at Miral HQ, and Expo City's Media Centre which has enabled seamless integration to the base build assets.

"The role of Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) solutions in shaping the future of our industry cannot be overstated. At ISG, we are actively collaborating with various partners to promote and incorporate MMC practices not only within our organization but also within the wider construction community. By embracing MMC, we are exploring diverse and ground-breaking construction techniques that enable us to achieve greater efficiency and productivity while minimizing resource consumption. In our quest for smarter construction practices and methodologies, we have fostered close collaboration with our external stakeholders. Together, we are paving the way for an innovative and sustainable construction industry."

Steve Ramsden, Managing Director, Middle East & Southeast Asia, ISG

Achieving optimal operational efficiency is a common goal that leads to better outcomes for everyone involved in the construction industry. By enhancing productivity, supporting innovation, and pushing the boundaries of possibility, construction companies can deliver projects that surpass expectations. As an advocate for innovation and best practices, ISG is at the forefront of transforming the construction industry. Through the adoption of modern methods of construction and the implementation of smart practices and methodologies, we aim to revolutionize the way buildings are constructed, making them more efficient, sustainable, and ultimately providing value for money.
