One Mabledon Place shortlisted for top industry award

ISG’s Health Services Laboratories (HSL) project, One Mabledon Place, has been shortlisted in the 'Project of the Year (£15m - £30m)' category, for this year's Construction News Awards.

Now in their 22nd year, the prestigious awards recognise the best of the construction industry, and demonstrate the passion those in the sector have for what they do.

Appointed by HSL in 2014 to create a state-of-the-art clinical pathology service in north London's emerging biosciences corridor, ISG transformed the revolutionary scheme from an outdated 1960s office block to one of Europe's largest pathology laboratories.

HSL is a progressive partnership between University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust and The Doctors Laboratory.

As a clinically-led provider of pathology and diagnostic services to the NHS, HSL combines specialist pathology expertise with research, development and academic excellence to deliver an outstanding standard of care.

ISG’s divisional director, Paul Sharp, who oversaw delivery of the project, said: "HSL's new facility needed to replicate the organisation's innovative, world-leading approach to diagnostics and pathology, as well as deliver efficiencies, embed cutting-edge technology, and accommodate the world's brightest researchers, doctors and scientists.

"To be shortlisted at these prestigious awards is testament to the outstanding efforts of the team, which required the delivery of several world firsts for the industry, creating the first-ever glass-fronted Category 3 laboratory, and one of the largest, and most sophisticated, sample distribution systems.

“I am delighted that the scheme is getting the recognition it deserves, and I have no doubt this project will help the delivery of future healthcare projects to come."

Managing director of ISG’s Engineering Services business in the UK, Lee Hutchinson, added: "We are delighted to be shortlisted in this year's awards.

“The design standards and technological innovations achieved in the development of this facility have changed the pathology landscape, and will influence how these pathology laboratories are designed and constructed around the world.

"Well done to the team and everyone involved – hopefully we can now take home the award on the night."

The next steps involve a presentation to the judges, before the awards take place on 12 July 2018.
